A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest— and poverty will come on you like a thief and scarcity like an armed man. Proverbs 6:9-11
Sluggard is on old-fashion word for lazy. This proverb warns that ‘a little’ sleep, slumber and rest starts the process of poverty coming into our lives. Certainly there is God-ordained rest, but a wise man will also be diligent. Without getting political, this is a big danger with our welfare system.
How am I doing in maintaining the balance between resting and diligence? Pretty good. Usually my sin would be failing to rest.
God, You really have provided everything I need in this life. You have placed so many wonderful opportunities before me, then added that amazing dynamic of blessing beyond anything I could do. Help me to be generous and caring. Help me encourage and teach others to avoid poverty.
