Now having been questioned by the Pharisees as to when the kingdom of God was coming, He answered them and said, “The kingdom of God is not coming with signs to be observed; nor will they say, ‘Look, here it is!’ or, ‘There it is!’ For behold, the kingdom of God is in your midst.” Luke 17:20-21
The religious leaders wanted to know Jesus perspective on when the kingdom of God would come. In some of their minds, this meant the re-establishment of Israel to its former glory and national identity. They had forgotten what really made Israel glorious – the presence of God. So, Jesus answers ‘its in your midst’, which is to say, ‘I am right here, and where I am, the kingdom is’!
Do I realize that the kingdom of God is as close today as Christ in me? Yes, certainly there is a day when Jesus will return. But right now, His presence in believers is the ‘now kingdom of God on earth’. Amazing! While I am looking anxiously for His return, I am content that He is here right now.
God, thank you that your abiding Spirit is with me, and in me. Lead me today to anyone who needs Your love and the hope of the message of Jesus gospel.
