But when Pharaoh saw that the rain and the hail and the thunder had ceased, he sinned again and hardened his heart, he and his servants. Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he did not let the sons of Israel go, just as the Lord had spoken through Moses. Exodus 9:34-35
Some people have been described as “hard as nails”. In some ways that can be a compliment. But not always. The hardening of Pharaoh’s heart is a fascinating thing. God foresaw the stubborn nature of Pharaoh and used it for the thorough and complete separation of the Hebrew people. Why would he be so hard even after the miracles? This is a mystery of human nature.
How about me? Am I hardened in any way to the workings and will of God?
Lord, I want to be obedient as Moses (and perhaps a little less argumentative with You). Reveal to me what to do today and I will walk with joy in what You have prepared.
