If your hand or your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it from you; it is better for you to enter life crippled or lame, than to have two hands or two feet and be cast into the eternal fire. If your eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out and throw it from you. It is better for you to enter life with one eye, than to have two eyes and be cast into the fiery hell. Matthew 18:8-9
Jesus wasn’t messing around when He talked about holy living and the stumbling blocks which cause sin and break our fellowship with God. To the one who causes the stumbling, He says ‘hey bud, it won’t go so good between You and I’. To those of us who stumble, we are to take radical action to stop.
In what ways do I need to hack off hands and feet or pluck out eyes to remove stumbling blocks in my life. I definitely need to stay away from areas of “eye candy” or course jesting (crude joking). Television is the 24 hour a day portal to all that. Ughh.
Lord, I want to be like the Psalmist who declared I will put no unholy thing before my eyes. I praise You for edifying music from Christian artists who write lyrics that build up and glorify You.
