Good Trade

Peter said, “Behold, we have left our own homes and followed You.” And He said to them, “Truly I say to you, there is no one who has left house or wife or brothers or parents or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, who will not receive many times as much at this time and in the age to come, eternal life.” Luke 8:28

In the movie Dances with Wolves (starring Kevin Costner), the soldier John Dunbar lost his hat to an Indian who traded a knife, and a whole bunch more for the hat. A respected Indian from the tribe pronounced over the transaction and said “Good trade”. Dunbar made out pretty good. Jesus described cost that had to be paid in following Him. Peter wanted to know if it was a good trade. Jesus said it certainly going to be great “then, and there”. But also, “here and now” – at this time!

Do I have doubts about my decision to follow Jesus Christ with my whole life? Not one. Honestly, it never enters my mind. I don’t look at what I might be or do apart from Him. This is the greatest life I could imagine.

God today again, I am glad I am saved. I am thankful for the life You have given. May I have a walk worthy of the gifts, resources and friends You have placed around me and in me.
