Good For The Soul

Sometimes I am very pleased with myself. Other times, I disappoint myself and I am sure, God as well. I remember hearing the phrase ‘confession is good for the soul’. And certainly it is. My brother once told me a great definition for confession. He said ‘to confess is to agree with God about it’. When I take time examine my motives and behavior before God, I am looking into a mirror of truth. He shows me what I could be, should be and in grace forgives that which was wrong or less than. In that grace, I find a new desire to live holy and my soul is restored. Solomon said, when I conceal wrongdoing I will become conflicted and not prosper (inside, emotionally, spiritually). But, when I do confess and repent- there I find God’s compassion expressed in Jesus who bore the penalty for my sin. Who needs something good for your soul today? Let’s confess!

One who conceals his wrongdoings will not prosper,
But one who confesses and abandons them will find compassion. Proverbs 28:13

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous, so that He will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9

What words, thoughts and deeds in my life am I concealing? How could I find freedom through confession?

God, as this day begins- I am again grateful for Your goodness and love and forgiveness. I am ever aware of my stumbling in this life. You are so gracious to entrust Your plan of redemption to the frail and imperfect. May we walk together today accomplishing Your will, first in me and then around me.
