Godsend

Then after his return from the defeat of Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him, the king of Sodom went out to meet him at the valley of Shaveh (that is, the King’s Valley).  And Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; now he was a priest of God Most High.  He blessed him and said, “Blessed be Abram of God Most High,
Possessor of heaven and earth; And blessed be God Most High,
Who has delivered your enemies into your hand.” He gave him a tenth of all. Genesis 14:17-20 NASB

Sometimes you meet people who are truly amazing. They give you some nugget of truth (gold) that seems to be right from God. They are a “Godsend”. That’s what happened to Abram when he met Melchizedek. Abram went on a raid and rescue mission to save his nephew Lot. Upon return, he simply wanted to return to the blessed life he was living. However, he was met by a very intriguing person “Melchizedek”, the king of Salem. Not much is said of this mystery king. His name means king of righteousness. He is greater than Abram and even Aaron the priest. His blessing upon Abram is consistent with God’s covenant. All this to say, God confirmed again His promise. In response, Abram is moved to give a king who not involved in the previous war- a tenth of the spoils. Amazing.

Who are those who have imparted God’s truth and encouragement to me in this life? How am I doing the same for others?

God, as this day begins- I pray You will lead and guide me through it. Help me make decisions and follow Your will and Your ways. I thank you for the calling upon my life and that often You have brought confirmation through Melchizedek friends.
