Sell what you have and give alms; provide yourselves money bags which do not grow old, a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches nor moth destroys. Sometimes the cares and worries of this life choke out the spiritual realities God wants for us. The band Switchfoot sings the lyrics “my fears have worn me out!” Ever feel that way? If I am all caught up in trying to solve the problems in my life apart from God, I could very well miss those things of real value He wants: fellowship, family, fun, rich times of prayer, recreation, mission trips, etc. So, Jesus says “travel a little lighter”. Sell what you have, share the wealth! And you will have eternal riches.
What in life right now, even good things, are distracting me from God’s kingdom? Do I really believe God wants to give me the kingdom?
What an amazing thought, that You want to give me the kingdom of God! What could all that really mean Lord? Today I want to spend time with my lovely wife, but at the same time, I have some worries and on top of that, some things I believe are part of the kingdom. Help me choose what to do, what to say, where to be. All good, but maybe not all the best. Give me wisdom Lord Jesus.
