Pursue love, yet desire earnestly spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. 1 Corinthians 14:1
Why should we desire spiritual gifts? Because when I love people using spiritual gifts, people are built up in their faith, healed, made whole, grow, taught, encouraged, emboldened, joyful, cared for, strengthened, and I could go on and on. While there are a few “gifts” lists in the Bible, my professor Leroy Lawson had the best way of helping people understand their spiritual gift. He says “What has God given you, that you can give away?… And who needs it… most!” What picture comes into your mind. That picture is you using your spiritual gift. It can include every talent, suffering, insight, compassion that God has ever given you. And its transferable.
What has God given me, that I can give away? The list is so long, it won’t permit me to write at this time. Am I giving it away? Oh, that’s the big question.
Lord Jesus, I want to use all the gifts You have given me to build others up, and in so doing, build Your kingdom. Wow!
