Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit.
And there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord.
There are varieties of effects, but the same God who works all things in all persons.
But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. 1 Corinthians 12:5-7
Believers in Jesus Christ are promised the abiding presence of The Helper (Holy Spirit) from God. In addition, we receive spiritual gifts. These are supernatural abilities or endowments that amplify or supplement natural abilities. I like how pastor Juan Carlos Ortiz says we should view these in relation to spiritual fruit. He says its like a Christmas tree, where the gifts are at the bottom, and the ornaments are hung above (the ornaments being the fruit). That way we remain humble in our use of the gifts and not find ourselves comparing or exalting the gifts or the person who is using them. Why? Because they are not for primarily for self-edification, but rather for edification or building up of the body of Christ.
What are the spiritual gifts God has given me? Am I using them for His glory and the good of others? Do people see the fruit of the Spirit first in my life?… or the gifts?
God, all things in this category are from You. Thank you for finding your way to using me, and gifting me, and allowing me to shine at times for the sake of others and Your kingdom. As this day unfolds, I pray You will direct my steps and I will see Your mighty moving within my life, family and ministry. May I be keenly aware that You have given me gifts to share and fruit to bear.
