Gaze Of The Soul

I was riding motocross with my friends a couple years ago in the desert. I hadn’t really ridden since I was a kid. So my buddy said “wherever you are looking the bike will go”. So, if I looked down the trail at a bush, that bike went right through exploding the limbs and leaves. But, he warned, if you look at a rock,… like a magnet it will draw you toward it. Sure enough, near the end of the day, as I got tired, I saw a big boulder, couldn’t take my eyes of it, and bam- ran right into it. In the same way, spiritually- the gaze of our soul is so very important. Remember when Jesus said “seek” and you will find? In this letter to the Colossians, Paul says the same thing “seek” or “set your hearts on” things above… godly ideals instead of earthly things. Paul echoed this idea in Philippians 4 when he wrote “think on these things”. What things? Whatever is lovely, noble, excellent, praiseworthy, etc. Let’s think higher thoughts today and see our earthly living reflect the gaze of our soul. It will make an eternal difference.

Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your[a] life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Colossians 3:1-4 NIV

What thoughts fill my mind? How can I redirect my attention and affection to heavenly realities?

God, as this day begins- I believe You can and do change circumstances, hearts, and outcomes. I want to focus on You as I do my work today. Oh, I want to be productive, effective, and prosperous. Moreover, I want to accomplish Your will. Help me in every task, giving me insight and thoughts beyond my own. I am so grateful for those around me that You’ve appointed to journey along the way. Now, let’s go take on the day!
