As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” At once they left their nets and followed him. Matthew 3:18-20
What an amazing privilege to be called by Jesus. The next three years would be nothing short of fantastic. What an initial calling… “come follow me”. In the gospel of John it was recorded as a call to “come and see”. After three years, Jesus would call his followers to “come and die”. What a commitment! What a life! And half the fun of fishin’ is who you are fishin’ with!
How has my commitment grown over the years of following Jesus? Has it grown to the point of full devotion and willingness to both live and die for Him? Yes.
God, the greatest calling in all the earth is to lead others to You… and to help them grow into a mature believer. Thank you that I am part of Your saving work in the world. Oh what a partnership I feel with other Christians.
