I have temptations in my life- chocolate sweets, pretty girls, riches and fame. I was asked by a young man, is it a sin to look at a pretty girl? I said, no- you can’t avoid the first look. The danger is in the second look. He replied, thank you pastor- I think I’ll just take a longer first look. The Bible says flee temptation. Some temptations come our way because of normal life. Others are crafted by the enemy of our soul. They are spiritual tests. The enemy wants us to fail. God wants us to pass the test by relying upon His Word, Character and Holy Spirit. Jesus Himself was led by God into the wilderness where he was vulnerable to temptation. He passed the test when tempted by Satan. Interestingly, there were ministering angels in the unseen world available to help Him. I imagine the same happens for us. Let’s pass the test of temptation.
And immediately the Spirit brought Him out into the wilderness. And He was in the wilderness for forty days, being tempted by Satan; and He was with the wild animals, and the angels were serving Him. Mark 1:12-13 NASB
Have I realized that temptations are a normal part of human existence? Or am I still surprised when they come my way? How prepared am I to pass the test?
God, as this day begins- I thank You for being available for every situation and imparting Your Word for instruction, Your love for motivation, and Your Spirit for power. Help me pass each test as they come by relying upon You. Give me wisdom to know when to fight or flee.
