Faithful, Not Fickle

People are fickle. We change our minds quickly and are easily swayed by fake news and other people’s opinions. We need grounding in truth and God’s Word. On the other hand, we are also stubborn. Having once arrived at an opinion, its hard to move the molecules in our brain to accept new information contrary to where we were. Ughhh, humans!!! So, how are we to live? And how are we to live with each other? The answer is to submit to a higher authority than ourselves- God, the Maker of heaven and earth. When we do that, we can find grace when we are wrong, by confessing our sin and error, receiving forgiveness and reconciliation with God and others. That’s what happened in the first century. The very people who yelled “crucify Him!”, were offered grace and forgiveness by God and the apostle Peter. Many of those fickle people in the crowd put their trust in the Savior they condemned and went on to live lives of love and grace with the hope of heaven. Its the one decision that isn’t fickle at all! When you receive Christ into your life, He imparts the Holy Spirit who gives us strength to live it!

While he was clinging to Peter and John, all the people ran together to them at the portico named Solomon’s, completely astonished. But when Peter saw this, he replied to the people, “Men of Israel, why are you amazed at this, or why are you staring at us, as though by our own power or godliness we had made him walk? The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified His servant Jesus, the one whom you handed over and disowned in the presence of Pilate, when he had decided to release Him.  But you disowned the Holy and Righteous One, and asked for a murderer to be granted to you, but put to death the Prince of life, whom God raised from the dead, a fact to which we are witnesses. And on the basis of faith in His name, it is the name of Jesus which has strengthened this man whom you see and know; and the faith which comes through Him has given him this perfect health in the presence of you all. And now, brothers, I know that you acted in ignorance, just as your rulers also did. Acts 3:11-17 NASB

I wonder if I would have been one in the crowd, jeering at the very One who was sent to save me? What opinions do I hold so dear, that I cannot be persuaded by new information, friends, or the Word of God?

God, as this day begins- I am committed to walk in truth. You alone are the source of truth and I believe Jesus when He said, “I am the way, the truth and the life”. He has become all of that to me. May I find someone to love in Your name today. Please bless my children and grandchildren. Help me complete the work ahead. I praise You for how wonderful life is, in spite of the difficulties. Help me be faithful not fickle.
