But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. 1 Timothy 6:6-8
People seem to have a inward desire to possess things. To own what others own and to keep up with the Jones’ is an American pre-occupation. And it hasn’t gotten us to a better place. The Bible says that godliness is great gain and contentment is an antidote to materialism. Jesus said it this way “seek first the kingdom of God”.
How am I doing in this area? Though I do possess great wealth at this point in my life, I do not believe I am possessed by it. I feel content, actually blessed!
Lord, help me to be generous and content at the same time. Help me keep godliness and the pursuit of Your kingdom primary in my life. Even today, as I am on vacation… I want to be close to You.
