Drawing Near

draw nearThe former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless (for the law made nothing perfect), and a better hope is introduced, by which we draw near to God. Hebrews 7:18-19

The author of Hebrews explains how Jesus is a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek. Why we needed Him is made clear in the contrast between the Aaronic or Levitical priesthood. Jesus’ ministry is one in which he offers up Himself, once for all, and He lives forever to make intercession for us, thus making our salvation complete. The descendants of Levi, had to make sacrifices for themselves first, then the people. The result of all of this… is that we can draw near to God!

Am I drawing near to God? Do I realize and appreciate what I have in Jesus, my priest?

Lord Jesus, I thank you for making a way for my sins to be forgiven. I am grateful that I can draw near to You, my God and find forgiveness, understanding, direction, purpose, and power. Today, may I in some smaller way, be Your minister to others.
