The word of the Lord that came to Joel, the son of Pethuel:
Hear this, O elders, and listen, all inhabitants of the land.
Has anything like this happened in your days or in your fathers’ days?
Tell your sons about it, and let your sons tell their sons, and their sons the next generation.
What the gnawing locust has left, the swarming locust has eaten;
And what the swarming locust has left, the creeping locust has eaten;
And what the creeping locust has left, the stripping locust has eaten. Joel 1:1-4
God can remove His protection from a nation. He did it with His own people and it could happen to America. When that happens, even a mighty nation can be devastated. That’s the warning Joel gave the leaders in his day. He described it first as an economic and agricultural devastation that would later be followed by a foreign invasion. Notice that it comes in waves. I bet the people thought, ‘this surely is the worst it will be’… only to discover what the swarming locust left, the creeping and stripping locust will eat. With internal terrorist attacks, unrighteous laws, inability to enforce righteous laws, unbelievable debt, stagnant growth in our economy, and record numbers of people not working, we are experiencing the removal of Divine protection. Our only hope is to repent and return to the God of our forefathers.
God, I thank you for Your patience and long-suffering with us. I am praying today for a revival, national repentance, and a return to You. May Your Spirit move within our pulpits and churches and people everywhere to put our faith in You and not ourselves. Please protect us, not because we deserve it, but because of Your great love and affection.
