Do You Know Him?

Some people know quite a bit about God, but haven’t yet come to know God (in a personal way). I didn’t have either advantage growing up. But, now after coming to God through Jesus Christ, I can say that I certainly know much, much more about Him… and I have come to know Him in a very personal way through a rich and devoted prayer life. How about you? Felix (a governor in Judea) was was pretty well versed in Judaism (he married a Jewess) and even about Jesus and the so-called sect of the Nazarene. His problem was inward corruption an da desire for bribes. When Paul spoke about how a relationship with God changed him, Felix was conflicted because he wanted a bribe in order to release Paul from house arrest. Many people have yet to travel the distance from knowledge “about” God, to a personal commitment and knowledge “of God”.

I love how Dr. Samuel Lockridge asks the question “Do You Know Him?” Watch this amazing video and challenge:

But Felix, having quite accurate knowledge about the Way, adjourned them, saying, “When Lysias the commander comes down, I will decide your case.” He gave orders to the centurion for Paul to be kept in custody and yet have some freedom, and not to prevent any of his friends from providing for his needs. Now some days later Felix arrived with Drusilla his wife, who was Jewish, and he sent for Paul and heard him speak about faith in Christ Jesus. But as he was discussing righteousness, self-control, and the judgment to come, Felix became frightened and responded, “Go away for now, and when I have an opportunity, I will summon you.” At the same time he was also hoping that money would be given to him by Paul; therefore he also used to send for him quite often and talk with him. But after two years had passed, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus; and Felix, wanting to do the Jews a favor, left Paul imprisoned. Acts 24:22-27 NASB

How have I grown in both the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ? Is there any inward desires that are so self-serving that I am not fully drawn toward Him, but rather hiding from Him?

God, as this day begins- I am looking forward to flying with Maureen to Arizona for her graduation. Thank you again for our 35th year of marriage. I am lucky indeed. May she sense how proud our family is to have our first member with a Bible degree. Tremendous! Please help me accomplish all my tasks early in the day, so that I can travel with ease.
