When my brothers and I were young, we would open our Christmas gifts with great anticipation, and so often… get everything we wanted. We were pretty fortunate. Then, we would call our friends and see what they got! When we pray, Jesus said we God desires to give us good things. He likens Himself to a good father, who by comparison to our earthly father’s gives something of eternal value- the Holy Spirit! God gives us His very presence. He lives in our heart, influencing us at a soul level, affecting our very thinking and emotions. Why? So that when we pray, we ask in accordance with His will. That’s how He can promise to us: everyone who seeks, will find, those who ask receive, and he who knocks, it will be opened!
So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks, it will be opened. Now which one of you fathers will his son ask for a fish, and instead of a fish, he will give him a snake? Or he will even ask for an egg, and his father will give him a scorpion? So if you, despite being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?” Luke 11:9-13 NASB
How in sync are my prayers with God’s will? Have I discovered what it is to ‘pray in the Holy Spirit’?
God, as this Christmas day continues- Thank you that You’ve given me everything I want and more. My wife is the greatest gift, second only to salvation. My kids, tremendous source of joy… and oh those grand cuties are such a blessing! Undeserved. But, I appreciate it all. Thank you!
