Thus I will establish My covenant with you, and you shall know that I am the Lord, so that you may remember and be ashamed and never open your mouth anymore because of your humiliation, when I have forgiven you for all that you have done,” the Lord God declares. Ezekiel 16:63
God’s everlasting covenant with His people (Israel) is based on grace and forgiveness. Ezekiel describes God’s gracious offer. Anyone with a clear understanding of how much God forgives would constantly remember, be ashamed of sinful behavior, and never open their mouth to boast or justify the sins of the past.
How about me? Have I entered into the covenant that God has made with His people today? Yes, it began for me 32 years ago. My mouth shall remain silent and not boast or justify sin. Rather I will rejoice in the salvation provided by the shed blood of Jesus.
Lord Jesus, your grace and forgiveness are undeserved and precious to me. May my mouth only be filled with gratefulness. Day by day, fill me an abiding love and obedience to righteousness.
