Day Of Reckoning

And He took him outside and said, “Now look toward the heavens, and count the stars, if you are able to count them.” And He said to him, “So shall your descendants be.”  Then he believed in the Lord; and He reckoned it to him as righteousness.  And He said to him, “I am the Lord who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans, to give you this land to possess it.” Genesis 15:5-7 NASB

Sometimes God’s plan do not unfold as we expect or in our timing. It seems like God is not always ‘on time’, but He is always ‘in time’. When Abram doubted that the promises of God (make him a nation = descendants; and allow him to possess the promised land)… God reaffirmed His promise to Abram! And the Bible says that Abram believed God. His belief was an exercise of faith. In response God reckoned or accounted it as righteousness. This is how saving faith works. God, in His grace, provided Jesus as a sacrifice to satisfy our sin debt. Our part is to take Him at His Word (promise) and by faith, believe in Him. He then places us in a right relationship with Himself (treating us as if we are as righteous as His own Dear Son Jesus). Wow. This is the model of faith and salvation. So simple, so available, so shareable. What a glorious day of reckoning, whenever one sinner, by faith, receives forgiveness, eternal life, and the hope of heaven.

When did I first exercise faith and put my trust in Jesus? Have I discovered how to practically walk in righteousness, now that I have been placed in positional righteousness?

God, as this day begins- I am off to a late start. But, perhaps that’s Your plan… a little extra time with Maureen and discussing the Bible. As this day unfolds, please use me to love others in Your name. Help me see Your hand of blessing. I desire to walk in Your righteousness for Jesus’ name sake. Thank you that You have reckoned me righteous, so my day of reckoning will simply be my faith becoming sight.
