Creation Is ‘Less Than’, For Now

For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God. Romans 8:20-21

I love to be outside in beautiful and natural settings. Something inside me is nourished and I feel close to God. Some would say that I am wired up to approach and experience God through this spiritual pathway of creation. I think that’s true. As amazing and wonderful as nature and creation is, its less than. It is less than what Adam would have experienced in the garden of Eden (the first earthly paradise). Why? Because God subjected it (made it less than) on purpose in response to sin so that we would hope for the return of paradise, not only in nature, but in ourselves. This then would be a re-creation of both man and man’s environment. One day we will see it. I can only imagine how amazing the it will.

How conscientious am I in taking care of the world entrusted to us? Am I a good steward of the environment? Am I too fanatical?

God, I thank you that you made me to sense You in creation. I see beauty in so much around me. May I be a good steward of all that You have made and one day see the full redemption and re-creation. Do Your work first and foremost in me, so that I might be a son of God.
