Convenient Goodness

There are forks in the road of life. The most profound is deciding on the question of goodness and evil. You would think that most people have decided that question in favor of ‘goodness’ (of course, because its wise). But, in my experience, that’s not so. Most people have decided on convenient goodness only. When wisdom directs us to take a harder stand for goodness, instead we take the other path hoping to hide the evil in our heart or have it accepted by our peers. Sadly, the compromised path is what tempts me, and from my vantage point, many others are taking that path too often. Now, we do see outright evil too. It makes the news when crimes are committed. Solomon reminds us ‘do not enter or walk in the way of evil’. Wisdom says stay on the straight and narrow. God sees it all, even my motivation.

On the way of wisdom I direct you, I lead you on straight paths.
When you walk, your step will not be impeded, and should you run, you will not stumble.
Hold fast to instruction, never let it go; keep it, for it is your life.
The path of the wicked do not enter, nor walk in the way of the evil;
Shun it, do not cross it, turn aside from it, pass on.
For they cannot rest unless they have done evil; if they do not trip anyone they lose sleep. Proverbs 4:11-16

Have I committed fully to the path of righteousness and goodness? How much tolerance for compromise have I allowed into my thoughts and actions?

God, as this day begins- I am committing to the inconvenient path when necessary. Would You impart to me Your wisdom, moment by moment, so that I become trained to recognize every fork in the road and to choose the wise way, no matter how convenient or inconvenient. Thank you that Your ways are higher and better and one day, I will walk beside Jesus. Wow!
