Consequences

For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do. Hebrews 4:12-13

Consequences. The choices we make in life, have them. Parents have consequences. God has them. When we abide by His “Word” (His revealed will and ways communicated by the great patriarchs, prophets, and His own dear Son) be enjoy blessings and protection beyond our own doing. When we stray outside God’s boundaries we find ourselves in bondage and sadly, experiencing Consequences. God will forgive, but there is no promise of removing consequences. Like children, we continue to learn spiritual lessons all of our lives from our Heavenly Father. Let’s avoid consequences by being obedient to His Word- which reveals not just what we do, but why we do it. Now that’s as powerful as a word from even a skilled counselor.

Am I experiencing any negative consequences from disobedience or failure to do what God has asked of me? How willing am I to repent and turn from my sin toward God and follow His Word?

God, as this day begins- thank you for Your mercy. Sometimes, You have sheltered me from the natural consequences of my wrongdoing. You didn’t have to. But you did. I am grateful for Your revealed Word. Help me know it, abide by it, and enjoy the life You’ve given. I want blessings, not consequences.

Jonathan Edwards resolution #6. Resolved, to live with all my might, while I do live.
