Confess

Have you heard the saying “Christians are not perfect, just forgiven”? That’s true of course. But, sometimes we pretend that we never sinned and that we don’t sin anymore, now that we are saved. John, the beloved apostle wrote about how we walk in the light as He (Jesus) is in the light. We are indwelt of the Holy Spirit and have a new found power to master sin. But, there is still the ‘old man’ living inside us that wants us to please ourselves and return to worldly, natural, living. So, yes- Christians are people who still sin. We are not ‘sinless’, but we do ‘sin less’ for sure. We are in the process of God sanctifying and perfecting us. So, what we do when we are convicted of sin by the Spirit of God is to confess to the Father what we have thought, said or done. To confess means to ‘agree with Him about it’… whatever ‘it’ is. Then, notice what God does in His righteousness… He forgives and cleanses us. Wow!

f we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous, so that He will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  1 John 1:8-9 NASB

Is there anything in my life right now that is displeasing to God? Have I come to Him and agreed about ‘everything’ so that I can be forgiven of sin and cleansed?

God, as this day begins- how wonderful it is to be forgiven and not bear the burden of guilt. Your grace abounds toward me. May I want today in humble confidence knowing- yes, I may sin, but I have an advocate who pleads my case, pays my debt, and sends me out of your courtroom exonerated and free. May I share this amazing message with others and live in the light so purely that Your righteousness is evident in me. Oh Lord, you know the families and people who need Your presence, power, and comfort. Use me in some small way to be that to them. Amen.
