One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and said to me, “Come, I will show you the punishment of the great prostitute, who sits by many waters. With her the kings of the earth committed adultery, and the inhabitants of the earth were intoxicated with the wine of her adulteries.” Revelation 17:1-2
The apostle John was shown the punishment that awaits the great harlot or prostitute known as mystery Babylon. This is a system, false church and city, that has the ability to affect many people around the world. Her compromise is to do abominable acts in conjunction with the kings of the earth. The judgment will be thorough. All the while, she appears dressed in purple and scarlet, glittering gold and precious stones. What a warning for all of us to be true on the inside and not concerned with the outer appearance of godliness.
Am I true to the Lord and His calling on my life? Is there any compromise with worldly kings or the mindset of the world? Am I clean on the inside?
God, what a great reminder that not only can we as people find ourselves in compromise, but entire systems that purported godliness can as well. Help me remain true to You. My desire is no longer for worldly things. Thank you that Jesus is my model of integrity.
