The word of the Lord came to Zechariah the prophet… Therefore say to them, Thus says the Lord of hosts, “Return to Me,” declares the Lord of hosts, “that I may return to you,” says the Lord of hosts. “Do not be like your fathers, to whom the former prophets proclaimed, saying, Thus says the Lord of hosts, “Return now from your evil ways and from your evil deeds.” But they did not listen or give heed to Me, declares the Lord. Zechariah 1:1,3-4
C’mon back! That’s the great offer from God to His people through the prophet Zechariah is “return to Me, and I will return to you”. Its the same offer God makes today. The people of God had followed evil ways of idolatry which led to judgment, captivity and exile. As a contemporary of Jeremiah, Zechariah prophesies about the return of God’s people to Jerusalem. Then in this wonderful book, He describes how God would return to His people as he describes the coming of the Messiah.
Have I discovered that God keeps His promise of intimacy… He really does draw near to me, when I draw near to Him.
God, thank you for Your promise. I want to walk closely with You today. I have felt a bit of an anxiety and even a bit of anger lately. Would you replace that with love? I would rather reflect Your heart than mine.
