Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. Moses was not able to enter the tent of meeting because the cloud had settled on it, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. Throughout all their journeys whenever the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the sons of Israel would set out; but if the cloud was not taken up, then they did not set out until the day when it was taken up. For throughout all their journeys, the cloud of the Lord was on the tabernacle by day, and there was fire in it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel. Exodus 40:34-38
God was with His people. He was available to meet with them in the tent of meeting, and to lead and guide them by his shining presence in the cloud. Its always been God’s desire to get closer. He was close in the garden. Then came the fall and separation. God set apart a man, Abraham, and got close. In the wilderness He sets up the tent of meeting. Then, at just the right time, Jesus, the Son of God, lived among us. On His departure, He promised His followers to be with them and in them by the abiding presence of the Holy Spirit. That’s pretty close. One day we will be in His presence forever.
Am I as close to God as I want to be?
Lord, thank you that You desire to be close and that I can claim the promise, ‘draw near to God, and He will draw near to you’. Today, I want to move forward as You lead, even as clearly as You did for Your people… in the cloud.
