Create in me a clean heart, O God,
And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Do not cast me away from Your presence
And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.

When we received God’s grace and appropriate it in our lives, a zeal for righteousness returns and a joy that overflows persists in our life. This song of repentance flowed from David’s heart. In it, he recognizes that God alone is capable of the forgiveness, restoration and salvation that is needed. God’s manifold grace is poured out upon David. I love how David promises ‘then I will teach transgressors Your ways’… he wants what God has given him to be received by others.
How about me? Is there anything or any sin that is quelling the presence of God’s Holy Spirit in my life? Is there the joy of salvation? Is my spirit willing and compliant with His? Do I teach transgressors His ways?
God, all of this I sense in my life. I know Your grace and abound in it. I claim the words of the chorus ‘and when Your eyes are on this child, Your grace abounds to me’. Thank you for a clean heart.
