Civil Rights

I am a big advocate for preserving the individual freedoms we uniquely enjoy in the United States. I love that over time we have codified a number of civil rights that emanate from our inalienable rights. However, as a Christian, I am discovering that even though I possess a right, I need not exercise it. The apostle Paul had a right to receive a salary for his work in preaching the gospel, but he decided to forego it. The reward he expected would come from God, and in so many ways it has. I want to be more like that… having the strength to voluntarily do what God calls me to do, working for eternal rewards above earthly ones.

Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible. 1 Corinthians 9:19

What rights are more important to me than advancing the gospel?

God, as this day begins- I ask that you protect my lovely wife as she travels across the country. May her conversations be encouraging. May she see some beautiful parts of the country. And may she return soon. Bless her efforts of ministry in every way. As I endeavor to minister and love people in Your name, use my God given personality and mind. Thank you for the rights I possess here in America. Moreover, thank you for the right to be called a son of God.
