God Meant It For Good

Then his brothers also came and fell down before him and said, “Behold, we are your servants.” But Joseph said to them, “Do not be afraid, for am I in God’s place? As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring about this present result, to preserve many people alive. So therefore, do not be afraid; I will provide for you and your little ones.” So he comforted them and spoke kindly to them. Genesis 50:18-21

God allows bad things to happen to us. Certainly the idea of ‘free will’ explains a good deal of what happens. But, in addition, God superintends the bad things into good things. He is a God who saves!
The summation of Joseph’s attitude and character development is contained in the Genesis 50:20 Principle- in which he recognizes the evil motivation of his brothers, God’s sovereignty, and fulfilled promise brought about through Joseph’s obedience- all resulting in a greater good.
A corollary to the Genesis 50:20 principle is the Romans 8:28 principle: God causes all things to work together for good for those that love Him and and are called according to His purpose. In Joseph’s case, God was saving many people alive! What could be more important?

What difficulty or bad thing is happening right now? How could God be redeeming it? Am I obedient to His word and will while I am waiting?

God, as this Eve of Christmas unfolds, I pray I might appreciate the birth of my Savior into the world and all Jesus means to me and the world. Please draw many worshiper to church today and those seeking to know about the salvation You offer us all.
