Buried Treasure

And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, in whose case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
For we do not preach ourselves but Christ Jesus as Lord, and ourselves as your bond-servants for Jesus’ sake.
For God, who said, “Light shall shine out of darkness,” is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves; 2 Corinthians 4:3-7

The gospel is like buried treasure inside of us. When we open the lid to the chest and let the love of God and the message of Jesus shine through our lives, people respond and get saved. I guess the difficulty is that God places the treasure in some contrary packaging. We are not perfect. We are in the process of being perfected. So, at any one moment people with see the ‘earthen’ side of us… the clay, the less than, sinful nature. The contrast should convince them of the reality of God, as they see the transforming work in process. Instead many dismiss the glorious gospel because its packaged in us and the enemy of their soul blinds them to the reality going on.

How am I letting the gospel shine through me? What perfecting work is God about in my life today?

Lord Jesus, as this day begins, I take You as my source, my goal and my model in all things. Help me share the significance of Your life with many today. I pray that You might support the woman I met, Anastasia- give her clarity of thought. Please sustain Kathie. Give miraculous healing in Jorge. God, draw Lila’s daughter’s heart toward Your own. I pray Eden will enjoy the conference this Friday and open her heart more and more to You and the things of God.
