The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
For through wisdom your days will be many, and years will be added to your life.
If you are wise, your wisdom will reward you; if you are a mocker, you alone will suffer. Proverbs 9:10-12
Acknowledging God and fearing Him is the first step on the journey of becoming wise. Knowing Him and His ways, precepts, laws, etc. leads to insight and understanding. Wisdom will extend our lives (think of the annual Darwin awards) and reward us.
This is true for me. I believe God in His graciousness has granted me a degree of wisdom that has allowed me to live with a greater understanding than I could attain on my own.
