“Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will injure you. “Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are recorded in heaven.” Luke 10:19-20

When the 70 returned, Jesus commended them. They were mightily used to advance the kingdom of God. They had gone out in confidence and returned in victory. They were talking about the miracles and authrority they had over demons. That’s our natural inclination, to revel in what we have done. Jesus directed their focus back to the basic reason for rejoicing… their own personal relationship to God and their hope of heaven.

In all the activities and successes of church life and ministry, do I come back to the basic reason to rejoice each day? Yes, I think so.

Again today Lord Jesus, may I remember that You saved me. I am Yours! And it is wonderful.
