Don’t new born babes look so pure and innocent? Like little cherubs! And of course they are part of life’s great joys, for sure. But, are they really pure and innocent of sin?… Not for long! There has been a long debate about the nature of man. Are we naturally good or are we evil from the start? Are we born with a sin nature? Solomon poses two questions with implied answers that are contrary to the way we want to answer, but deep down we know the truth about ourselves. The answers are “no one” and “no”. What are the questions? Remember what Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn said: “The line separating good and evil passes not through states, nor between classes, nor between political parties either – but right through every human heart…even within hearts overwhelmed by evil, one small bridgehead of good is retained. And even in the best of all hearts, there remains…an uprooted small corner of evil.”

God, as this day begins- I acknowledge that I have the propensity for both evil and good. But, You have made me a new creation In Christ Jesus. So, my new nature is to do Your will. Help me today, be the person You’ve made me to be. For all my friends, I pray the words of the Psalmist, “May the Lord grant all your requests.” Psalm 20:5b NIV
