Answering The Critics

Critics are everywhere. They have never built anything, they only tear down. Don’t worry when they criticize you. Jesus was uniquely targeted by religious leaders who tired to trick Him into saying something contrary to scripture or the rule of the Roman government. On one occasion they put ‘spies’ into the crowd who asked about paying taxes. Oh, what a touchy subject. Failure to pay taxes was punishable in his day by imprisonment. Too much allegiance to Rome was an offense to the Jews and His own heritage. And in His own brilliant manner, Jesus drew out the spies and revealed God’s ways and priorities. Here, as so often it happened, He answered and even silenced His critics.

And so they watched Him closely, and sent spies who pretended to be righteous, in order that they might catch Him in some statement, so that they could hand Him over to the jurisdiction and authority of the governor.  And the spies questioned Him, saying, “Teacher, we know that You speak and teach correctly, and You are not partial to anyone, but You teach the way of God on the basis of truth.  Is it permissible for us to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?” Luke 20:20-22 NASB

How do I respond to my critics? What wisdom from above do I need at this very moment?

God, as this day begins- would you lead and guide me moment by moment. Please impart to me the wisdom from above as needed moment by moment. Would you allow me to minister to hurting people and to share the hope in Jesus available to all.
