An Atoning Cover

Have you ever had someone “cover for you”? Maybe they covered a work shift, or completed a project, or paid the balance on a bill. When the ark of the covenant was constructed, the top piece (think Indiana Jones)… had two angels of pure gold. It was called the atoning cover and was symbolic of God’s covering of man’s sin. When it comes to our sin debt today, Jesus Christ is our “atoning cover”. By putting faith in Him, we are forgiven and He cleanses our conscience from dead works to serve the living God.

He also made an atoning cover of pure gold, two and a half cubits long and one and a half cubits wide.  And he made two cherubim of gold; he made them of hammered work at the two ends of the atoning cover: one cherub at the one end and one cherub at the other end; he made the cherubim of one piece with the atoning cover at the two ends. And the cherubim had their wings spread upward, covering the atoning cover with their wings, with their faces toward each other; the faces of the cherubim were toward the atoning cover. Exodus 37:6-9 NASB

How has the forgiveness of God made my conscience alive to serve the living God?

God, as this day begins- I think about all the wonderful opportunities to love people in Your name and I get excited. I wish I had 48 hours in a day. I pause to pray for each going on the Holy Land mission trip today. Work within them to travel well, be a team, and manage difficulty. Let them shine for Your Name. Would you do a miracle for the final team member’s passport?
