Am I Listening?

listeningWhy do you complain against Him that He does not give an account of all His doings?
Indeed God speaks once, or twice, yet no one notices it.
In a dream, a vision of the night, when sound sleep falls on men,
While they slumber in their beds, then He opens the ears of men, and seals their instruction,
That He may turn man aside from his conduct, and keep man from pride;
He keeps back his soul from the pit, and his life from passing over into Sheol Job 33:13-18

Elihu is a young man that challenges Job. He has heard the older friends of Job speak and the reply from Job. But, its not satisfying to him, he must give his opinion too. Elihu says God not only is righteous and just, but He also communicates what He is doing in a variety of ways. We are the problem. We don’t listen. While this may not explain all of Job’s situation, it certainly is true… God speaks!

Am I listening to God, discerning His ways, and paying attention to His promptings in my life?

God, I want ears to hear, eyes to see and a heart that says ‘yes’ to You. As I read the Bible and pray, I ask that You will put pictures in my mind of the way I should go, the decisions I should make and the people I should reach out to.
