I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it. On no day will its gates ever be shut, for there will be no night there. The glory and honor of the nations will be brought into it. Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life. Revelation 21:22-27
A comedian asked the question: If 7-11 Stores are always open, why do their doors have locks? The characteristics of the heavenly city are that God illuminates it, He is ever present and available. He lights the way for the nations and kings who bring their splendor to Him. Its always open and never night. Nothing impure comes in. Its made for those whose names are written in the book of life.
I want to be there for sure. Its hard to really imagine what this is describing… though I know it will all make sense when it happens. I love how John’s vision is so inviting!
God, what an interesting description of the new Jerusalem. As I anticipate then and there… help me be a godly man here and now. Thank you that you are always open and available.
