A Good Teacher

I have a few favorite teachers from school and college. Usually they possessed some important insight or issued a great challenge that changed my perspective in life. I am grateful for them. One aspect of Jesus’ earthly ministry was to teach about the kingdom of God. He used the Hebrew scriptures as His reference. And He often entered the Jewish synagogue to do so. People were amazed because He gave clarity, insight, challenge and spoke with authority, unlike those who merely copied the scrolls (scribes). How refreshing that must have been. No wonder new spread and large crowds followed. He was certainly considered a good teacher. But, to say that is to woefully understate His identity. He is the Son of the Living God.

They went into Capernaum; and immediately on the Sabbath Jesus entered the synagogue and began to teach. And they were amazed at His teaching; for He was teaching them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. Mark 1:21-22 NASB

Who are the teachers for whom I am grateful? I wonder who might be grateful for my teaching?

God, as this day begins- I am constantly amazed at the brilliance of Jesus’ teaching and His absolute integrity in living according to it. For me He is the supreme embodiment of pure instruction and the wisdom of God personified. May I be a reflection to some degree of Him who now lives within me by the abiding presence of the Holy Spirit.
