A Better Day

A good name is better than fine perfume, and the day of death better than the day of birth.
It is better to go to a house of mourning than to go to a house of feasting,
for death is the destiny of everyone; the living should take this to heart. Ecclesiastes 7:1-3

What was Solomon getting at? He understood that our attitude toward life is very shallow if we say ‘eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die’. That’s the view for the person who never considers God or eternity. At times in life, like the loss of a loved one, we re-calibrate what’s truly important.

I like to share this Bible verse at memorial services because it gives insight to people who are suffering.

Lord, today I am going into a situation of great suffering. Would you give me the words and fill my heart with compassion for Vanessa and Lou and their family. Help me share the gospel in such a clear and compelling way that everyone present will meet You Jesus!
