labor of loveWe give thanks to God always for all of you, making mention of you in our prayers; constantly bearing in mind your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the presence of our God and Father, knowing, brethren beloved by God, His choice of you; for our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction; just as you know what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake. 1 Thessalonians 1:2-5

What an amazing commendation that the church in Thessalonica received from the apostle Paul. These people were known for their work of faith, labor of love, and steadfast hope. In other words, they worked in such a way as to build the kingdom of God trusting that what they labored for would materialize. They were motivated by a love for God and from God. In the midst of opposition, they continued with a sense of hope. This is how a good reputation is earned and rewarded by God.

What am I known for? Am I continually motivated by love?

Lord God, on this day of rest and home chores, I already am enjoying what You provide. I pray that as I make my way through this day, I see ahead what You are building in the kingdom of God (by faith), and I labor with a staedfast hope and a heart filled with love. Please be close to my friend Mike as he mourns his father’s passing today.
