My friend Luke once taught math as a junior high school teacher. He suffered an allergic reaction which was so severe he was in a coma and when he awoke, he had forgotten everything (his wife, how to eat, and yes… how to do ‘long division’ math problems). I bet many people would be happy not to have ever learned division. I love math and long division (not a fan of new math = estimating everything). The one division I do not like is division in the body of Christ. The apostle Paul reminded us that spiritual gifts are given to reduce division, envy, favoritism, and to promote honoring weaker believers. How other worldly!!!
But now there are many parts, but one body. And the eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you”; or again, the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” On the contrary, it is much truer that the parts of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary; and those parts of the body which we consider less honorable, on these we bestow greater honor, and our less presentable parts become much more presentable, whereas our more presentable parts have no need of it. But God has so composed the body, giving more abundant honor to that part which lacked, so that there may be no division in the body, but that the parts may have the same care for one another. And if one part of the body suffers, all the parts suffer with it; if a part is honored, all the parts rejoice with it. 1 Corinthians 12:20-26 NASB
How do I feel about other believers who lack, are less presentable, and weaker? Have I considered this might be me?
God, as this day begins- I am anticipating so much. May I see the value in every person, especially those of the household of faith. Help me realize just getting a job done is less important than the people around me. And thank you for the delightful visit from my grandcuties Kennedy and Carter (Ken Ken and Carty-bear). Bless them today even as they are blessing to me.
