building blocksA plan in the heart of a man is like deep water,
But a man of understanding draws it out.
Many a man proclaims his own loyalty,
But who can find a trustworthy man?
A righteous man who walks in his integrity—
How blessed are his sons after him. Proverbs 20:5-7

Very profound truths are contained in these small proverbs. They describe the qualities in a man that can help build meaningful relationships that we can enjoy with each other. The first is the ability to LISTEN. In doing so, and reflecting the heart of a friend, we can help them discern God’s will. The second is TRUST. What we say is far less important than what we actually do. And the third relationship builder is INTEGRITY. To be the same whether alone or in a crowd, face to face or behind one’s back. That quality will positively affect even those in the next generation… our kids may well enjoy a relationship with the children of our friends.

Am I am of understanding… can I listen? Am I trustworthy… can God and others put things in my care? Do I walk in integrity… am I real?

Lord Jesus, You are all of these and more to me. Truly, You are the friend that sticks closer than a brother. I thank you for the friends You have placed in my life. Though few, they are wonderful. Help me be an equal partner to them. And most of all, I am grateful for my wife, she is understanding, trustworthy and full of integrity.
