A song topped the charts in the 70s. It was written by Warren Zevon and sung by Linda Ronstadt. A real catchy tune with the lament “poor, poor, pitiful me” because a girl longed for a satisfying relationship, but just couldn’t find it. I feel sad for her. In the same way, people may look at Christians and think “poor, poor, pitiful person… look how they are following the teachings of a dead prophet from the 1st century”. Oh, but what they don’t know is that Prophet is alive and well and seated at the right hand of God. He was raised from the dead! This is the most established fact of the first century and it changes everything. We now have a personal relationship with the God who made us through Him. He invites the skeptic to “taste and see that the Lord is good”. Have you accepted this invitation? Who is pitiful after all?
For if the dead are not raised, then not even Christ has been raised; and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins. Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If we have hoped in Christ only in this life, we are of all people most to be pitied. 1 Corinthians 14:16-19 NASB
What difference has the resurrection of Jesus made in my life? Who in my circle of influence needs to know Him?
God, as this day begins- I am so grateful that You loved us so much that Jesus came and lived a sinless life, died a substitutionary death, and rose again for my justification, proving to the world that death is not the end. Therefore, I will live my life for His glory, daily fulfilling His ministry in the world. God, You answered a desire of my hear recently in such a spectacular way, I want to shout it from the rooftops. But, in discretion- I will wait for the right moments. Oh how You love us! I have no reason to sing “poor, poor pitiful me”, for I am blessed.
