Take care, brethren, that there not be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart that falls away from the living God. But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called “Today,” so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. Hebrews 3:12-13
A tender heart toward God is required for salvation. Sin deceives us and hardens our hearts and makes us numb toward repentance. This leads to a ‘falling away’.
How soft is my heart? Are there any areas that are calcifying?
Oh Lord, examine me and reveal any areas of hardness. I want to present them to you for breaking up, turning over and softening. I can see why David sang “purge me with hyssop”.
