You Can Smack Your Own

jim romeMoreover, as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by ceasing to pray for you; but I will instruct you in the good and right way.
Only fear the Lord and serve Him in truth with all your heart; for consider what great things He has done for you. But if you still do wickedly, both you and your king will be swept away. 1 Samuel 12:23-25

Sport commentator, Jim Rome said that its ok to ‘smack your own’ (criticize) a sports team. The reason is you have a great affection for your team. In his old age, Samuel warns Israel of the consequences of disobedience. But, in that warning he expressed his great care and affection for God’s people. He promised to continually pray for them. (1 Thess. 5:17 – pray without ceasing). What a wonderful balance as a leader. Samuel spoke the truth in a loving way. He stands as a good example to all of us that desire to lead.

Who am I praying for continually? Do they know it?

God, help me be honest and kind at the same time. As I look ahead into my calendar for this day, O I need You. Give me wisdom and words to bless and benefit. Please give me favor as I speak the truth in a loving way. In Jesus precious name. Amen.
