The law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the soul;
The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.
The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart;
The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.
The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever;
The judgments of the Lord are true; they are righteous altogether.
They are more desirable than gold, yes, than much fine gold;
Sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb.
Moreover, by them Your servant is warned;
In keeping them there is great reward. Psalm 19:7-11
I don’t think we can really know ourselves, until we know our true selves in Christ. In other words, when we have been forgiven, redeemed, sanctified and justified before God through the sacrificial work of Jesus on the cross- and have entered into a relationship with the Father in Heaven by grace- He helps us become the person we were always meant to be. Our soul is restored. Interestingly, its a restored soul… that’s the promise for one who keeps God’s holy law. Jesus asked ‘what will a man give for his soul’… that priceless part of us that embodies our very personality and essence.
All this to say that following after God brings enlightenment, righteousness, wisdom and everything of value. These exceed the value of even gold, yes than much fine gold.
How am I seeking to follow Jesus example and commands? To what degree have I come to know my true self, have my soul restored, wisdom imparted and things of eternal value become who I am?
God, as this day begins… would you lead me and direct my steps. Help me resolve the problems ahead, address the opportunities, bless those I encounter and in all of this- walk in righteousness with a restored soul.
