Woe to you Pharisees, because you give God a tenth of your mint, rue and all other kinds of garden herbs, but you neglect justice and the love of God. You should have practiced the latter without leaving the former undone. Luke 11:42
Jesus challenged the impure motives and practices of the religious leaders of His day. In harsh terms he took them to task and pronounced woes upon them. One of His great criticisms was that they put on a good show externally, appearing to be pious and righteous, but inwardly were not lovers of God and pursuers of justice.
How about me? Am I consumed with looking good and right and neglecting the matters of the heart?
God, as this day begins, I believe You have many prepared several opportunities to reach out and love people in Your name, make a difference with the God-given talents and gifts You’ve provided. I am praying for a number of people this morning… my friend Jermiah (help him pass his exams), Roy, (sustain him in his health), my Mom (give her strength and energy), and the children attending our vacation Bible school this afternoon (make it a magical experience for them)!
