Witness

And I will grant authority to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for twelve hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth.” These are the two olive trees and the two lampstands that stand before the Lord of the earth.  And if anyone wants to harm them, fire flows out of their mouth and devours their enemies; so if anyone wants to harm them, he must be killed in this way. These have the power to shut up the sky, so that rain will not fall during the days of their prophesying; and they have power over the waters to turn them into blood, and to strike the earth with every plague, as often as they desire. Revelation 11:3-6

I hope that I am a reliable witness to the things of God. I don’t have to be an arguing attorney, just a person who shares what I have seen, heard and experienced with God. When people look at my life, it may be a bit of a mystery to them… why I do what I do or say what I say. But, so long as they see Christ reflected and God’s heart and mind, I will be happy. I know that means that some people will not like me or my testimony.

In John’s vision, the second woe pronounced on the earth, following the massive plagues, is the preaching and power of two witnesses. Their ministry and power resembles that of Elijah and Moses. How fitting, because the tradition has always been for Jewish people, that Messiah would come with Elijah making the way ready. Together these witnesses represent “the law” and “the prophets”. How fitting for the preparation of the nation of Israel to repent in mass and turn to Jesus as their Savior. All of the activity seems centered in Jerusalem and a rebuilt temple. Notice also, that they have power over rain and to turn water into blood. Sound familiar?

Am I a faithful witness? Do I tend to ‘candy coat’ the truth of God because I want to be liked?

God, as this day begins- I am amazed at how the world is changing. I am troubled that so many are hostile toward You and Jesus, the only begotten Son and Savior of mankind. Help me be a daily witness to Your grace, mercy and love. I don’t want to compromise in my life or with Your Word. My special prayer today is for Maria’s child who seems to have slowed in growth in the womb. Would You intervene and make that child healthy and whole. Please bless the baby, Maria and her husband.
